Eaton Square London SW1
These photos show part of one of London's most expensive residential districts. It arose as an early-1800s real estate development and extends most of the way from Buckingham Palace to Sloane Square.
It was to the house of Marion Irene Keyser nee Lousada #1825 in Eaton Square that Winton Harman Lousada #494 was invited in the 1950s. This followed Winton meeting Hans Louzada's wife on a KLM flight out of Kuala Lumpur, from which we can infer that Hans - who spent time in London late in WW2 following his rescue by HMS Venomous (ref 397) - had met Marion during this time. From his visit Winton learnt of a proposed reunion at Lousada in Portugal, which he could not attend. However the photo of Hans in Lousada suggests the reunion occurred, and many of us have visited at other times including Hans' granddaughter Karin. Such visits hold little genealogical interest - other than that the baptism of Pedro de Lousada #1793 probably occurred there - because the family's stay was transitory. How Hans was related to us has only recently become apparent, and was unknown during Winton's visit in the 1950s and also when a young Peter Lousada met Hans in Teheran in the 1970s.
Between the Wars, Marion's brother Johnny also lived in Eaton Square. He was the owner of the Jacaranda Club. But many other interesting characters have also lived there, including Count Metternich former Empire Foreign Minister at the time of the Congress of Vienna, and Roman Abramovich owner of Chelsea FC whose dubious Sephardic genealogy discredited the Portuguese program of redress for former Portuguese Jews.
