he reported that when in the South African army he inadvertently strayed into Mozambique in 1974 and extricated himself from detention with some difficulty and has a discharge letter writtn in the Tanzanian language to prove this!

Canon Nick Bury, 53, has been Vicar of St Peter-in-Thanet since 1984. He was appointed Rural Dean in 1993 and a Canon of Canterbury Cathedral in 1994. Previously he served as Chaplain of Christ Church Oxford between 1971 and 1975 and as Vicar of St Mary Shephall, Stevenage between 1975 and 1984.
He is married with three children. His leisure interests include golf, cricket, painting in watercolours and the study of Romanesque architecture.
