72. Ralph Ludlow Franco

Baptismal record shows abode to be Haxtes Lodge.  This may have been a temporary residence where Ralph & Susan stayed with Ralph Ludlow for the baptism.  Their main abode would probably have been Roborough House in Roborough, Devon (Jump  as it was called then).
Also, according to the IGI, he was born in Westbury.  They may have travelled from there for the baptism.

M.A., barrister at law, J.P. and D.L., high sheriff, 1869.

Census 1851: HO107/1871/462/2: Registration District of Newton Abbot.  Sub RD Moreton Hampsted.  Civil Parish of West Ogwell, Devon.  No3 Ogwell House.

Ralph Ludlow Lopes. Bom Sept. 9th, 1820. Died Feb. 28th, 1898, aged 77. Buried at Melksham. He was the son of Sir Ralph Lopes, second baronet of Maristowe, Devon, by his marriage with Susan Gibbs, d. of Abraham Ludlow, of Heywood, Wilts. He was educated at Winchester and Christchurch, Oxford. B. A., 1844. M. A. and called to the Bar, 1847. Married, 1851, Elizabeth, third daughter of Samuel Trehawk Kekewich, M.P., of Peamore, Devon. His two sons, Ralph Kekewich and Henry Ludlow predeceased him. His third son, George, and daughter, Julia, survive him. He took for many years a very prominent part in county business -     J.P. and D.L. He was High Sheriff of Wilts in 1869 ; Recorder of Devizes, 1877 to 1887; and Chairman of Wilts Quarter Sessions for some eleven years. He, however, retired from public life before the County Council came into existence. He purchased the Sandridge Park Estate, and built the house soon after his marriage, and always took the warmest interest in local matters -     the revival of the Melksham Agricultural Society and the formation of the Melksham Rifle Corps being very largely due to him. Obit, notices, Standard, Mar. 2nd ; Devises Gazette, Mar. 3rd, 1898.

Marriage Notes for George Lopes and Ernestine Frances Lopes

MARRIAGE: Marriage not found in LMA

These two were first cousins as their respective fathers were brothers.

QUEEN  Magazine  27th November 1897
St.Paul's Church,Knightsbridge,London.was the scene of a very pretty wedding on Saturday last, when Mr.George Lopes, only surviving son of Mr.and Mrs.Ralph Ludlow Lopes,of Sandridge Park,Melksham, was married to his cousin, the Hon. Ernestine Lopes, fourth daughter of the Right Hon.Lord Ludlow,of Heywood, Westbury,Wilts. The chancel is so ornate that nothing is needed to enhance its beauty, but a few graceful palms and white flowers placed about the rood and steps gave the finishing touch to the interior. The bride, who was accompanied by her father.looked charming in a gown of oyster white satin Duchesse, embroidered in silver.diamonds and chenille. The Court train was of ivory brocade in a trefoil design, and was lightly sprinkled all over with diamonds. A Brussels lace veil was arranged over a wreath of orange blossoms and secured with a diamond flaming star, the gift of the bridegroom's parents.
The bride's train was borne by a little goddaughter of the bridegroom, and by a page;the former in an Empire frock of white satin, with a chiffon fichu, and large drawn satin picture hat with ostrich feathers;and the later in a Court page's suit of white satin, with a cape of turquoise veloure glace, and white felt hat with a diamond buckle and long feathers. These two costumes were made by Mrs.J.E.Stuart,31 Somerset Street,W.

LORD LUDLOW  Death After Hunting Accident
Lord Ludlow died at his seat, Luton Hoo, Bedford, last night as the result of :a hunting accident. While returning from a meet of the Hertfordshire foxhounds, of which, he is the master, last Saturday, he took a short cut across the park to Hoo, and forgot the wired-in cricket ground. His father, Lord Justice Lopes, took the title of Baron Ludlow on his elevation to the Peerage in 1897. Lord Ludlow, who succeeded to the title, was married first to the widow of the 7th Lord Howard de Walden. She died in 1911, and in 1919 he married the widow of Sir Julius Charles Wernher. Marriage Notes for Ernestine Frances Lopes and George Lopes

SUNDAY TIMES  26 JANUARY £100,000 LEGACY TO THE ZOO
MOTHER'S PORTRAIT TO BE HONOURED PLACE IN BOARDROOM
About £100,000 will pass to the Zoological Society of London under the Will of Mr George d'Arroyave Lopes, of Egerton Place, Chelsea. Mr Lopes left £121,339 gross, with net personalty £119,833. Bequests in his Will include, on the death of his wife:-
Funds producing £300 per year to his brother John for life, and then for St.Bartholomew's Hospital for the encouragement of medical and clinical research.
His collection of Chinese bronzes, a large Japanese screen by Ritmo, and a gold embossed repeater watch to the Victoria and Albert Museum.
A picture of his late mother, Georgina Lopes, to the Royal Zoological Society.
The residue of the property is left to the Zoological Society on the condition that they hang in their boardroom the picture of his mother and shall keep up in good repair the family graves.
Should these conditions not be fulfilled, then the ultimate residue is to go to St. Bartholomew's Hospital.
"Mr Lopes was not a Fellow of the Society, although he took a great interest in the gardens." Sir Peter Chalmers Mitchell, the secretary of the Society, told a Press representative yesterday.
"I estimate that the residue of the estate will be almost £70,000, but until the estate has been wound up, and legacies arranged, I cannot say definitely."
"The money is not earmarked for any purpose, except the maintenance and improvement of the Society."
Mr George Lopes was deputy Chairman of the Metropolitan Association for the Improvement of Dwellings for the Industrious Classes.,
Mr George de Arroyave Lopes died 1 September 1929

My dear Copleston,
After weeks of suspense, & further delay caused by a mistake on Mr.Richard's part as to the period of Walter's admissions for examination, we have the satisfaction of receiving a letter this morning from him fixing Tuesday next the 6th inst. for your Father & Brother being in Oxford \endash   being pressed for time you will not see their going up but they will take Bristol on their return, which will most probably be on the Saturday following/the 10th inst. when you can obtain Mr Knights permifsion to meet them at the Bush Inn \endash   they will arrive by the Oxford Mail & you can learn when it comes in, unlefs you hear to the contrary from your Father you will then expect to see them on the 10th \endash   poor Walter will be delighted to hear the day is although fixed, for he has been quite harafsed & had even given up the hope of being examined this term.
We have had made for you two very neat pr of trousers which I hope will fit, as Papa thought Adams with a little alteration for growth could make them for you \endash   I also send some of last year's which I hope may come in for wear \endash   you had no stockings but I make you a present of 4 pr towards your Summer stock & a neat silk pocket handkf \endash   a little but good & useful book & Billy's present of a set of steel pens We all remembered your birth my dearest Copleston & I did not forget to ask God's blefsing for you, that you may be led by his gracious spirit into the right & happy way - & daily my best hopes are thus engaged for you all \endash   your sisters C. & E. have been very poorly from the Influenza which has persisted much in Plymouth & this neighbourhood they came home again for a week but are now returned quite well I hope, & Pollexfen completely recovered I am thankful to say \endash   We hope you have not wanted your things, the weather has been so changeable that I should? be sorry (hole in paper) had you put on thinner clothing \endash   tis quite wrong to do so between the seasons \endash   your Father will bring your parcel to Bristol \endash   much I should like a peep of you my dear boy, but if you enjoy the blefsing of health, I must be content trusting the separation is for your advantage \endash   I hope Papa will see Mr.Knight & that he will be able to give a satisfactory account of you in all respects \endash   Sarah's best love and sends you a little birthday remembrance a pocket tortoiseshell comb hoping will be of some use \endash   as a remembrance I tell her I am sure you will value it \endash   I have not time to write more but remain my dear Copleston with your Father's most affectionate remembrances your ever attached Mother \endash

Marriage Notes for Emma Admonition Radcliffe and John Hall Parlby

MARRIAGE: bMANADON
/b"MANATON, or Manadon, is a small village, on an eminence, near the rocky hills and the sources of the West Teign, or Bovey river, on the eastern side of Dartmoor, 3 1/2 miles S.W. of Moreton-Hampstead. Its parish contains 429 souls, and 6,393 acres of land, including the hamlets of Freeland and Water, and more than 2,000 acres of commons and wastes, amid some of the wildest scenery of Dartmoor Forest. Hountor, a stupendous group of rocks, appears like ruined turrets and broken pinnacles, and as seen from different points of view, assumes an endless variety of fantastic figures. . . . The Earl of Devon owns a great part of the parish, and has a rabbit warren of 600 acres here. The rest belongs to the French, Nosworthy, Barham, and Bryant families, and other freeholders; and on the south side of the parish are the Haytor Rock Granite works. The Church (St. Winifred,) is a fine old structure, in the early perpendicular style, with an embattled tower and four bells. It was much injured by lightning on Dec. 13th, 1779. The rectory, valued in K.B. at £13. 12s. 8 1/2d., is in the patronage of the Rev. Wm. Carwithen, D.D., and incumbency of the Rev. W.P. Wood, . . . " [From White's Devonshire Directory (1850)]
A parish in Teignbridge Hundred, and the Archdeaconry of Totnes and Diocese of Exeter.
